Standard Bike Tune-Up

Standard Bike Tune-Up in Raleigh — $175

Your bike’s shifting is sluggish. The brakes don’t feel as sharp as they used to. Maybe the chain skips under load or you hear a creak you can’t track down. If any of that sounds familiar, the Standard Tune-Up at Bell Lap Cycleworks is exactly what your bike needs. At $175, it’s our most popular service — and for good reason. It covers the full range of adjustments, cleaning, and inspection that keeps a well-ridden bike running the way it should.

We built this package for riders in Raleigh and the Triangle Area who ride regularly — whether you’re commuting through North Raleigh, doing weekend group rides, or logging miles on the greenways. If your bike hasn’t been serviced in six months or more, this is the tune-up to get.

What’s Included in the Standard Tune-Up

Here’s how it works. We go through your bike from front to back and address everything that affects how it rides:

  • Full drivetrain cleaning and adjustment — We clean the chain, cassette, chainrings, and derailleurs, then dial in shifting so every gear change is crisp and reliable
  • Brake adjustment — Both brakes get checked and adjusted for proper pad alignment, lever feel, and stopping power
  • Wheel truing — We check both wheels for lateral and radial trueness and correct any wobble
  • Tire inspection — We inspect tread wear, sidewall condition, and tire pressure
  • Headset and bottom bracket check — Both bearing interfaces are inspected for play, tightness, and smooth rotation
  • Chain wear check — We measure chain stretch and let you know if it’s time for a replacement before it damages your cassette
  • Full safety inspection — Bolts checked for proper torque, quick releases or thru axles inspected, and a thorough once-over for anything that could cause problems down the road
  • Test ride — Every tune-up ends with a test ride to confirm everything feels right under real riding conditions

If we find anything during the tune-up that needs replacement — a worn chain, glazed brake pads, a fraying cable — we’ll let you know before we do anything. Parts are additional, and there are never any surprises on the bill.

Who Is the Standard Tune-Up For?

The Standard Tune-Up is the right fit if any of these describe you:

  • You ride weekly — road, gravel, mountain, or commuting
  • Your bike hasn’t been serviced in 6 months or longer
  • Shifting feels hesitant or brakes don’t inspire confidence
  • You want a thorough once-over before a big ride, race, or event
  • You pulled your bike out of storage and want it dialed in

It’s our most-requested package because it hits the sweet spot — thorough enough to address real wear and tear, without the full teardown of an overhaul. For most riders who take care of their bikes and ride consistently, one or two Standard Tune-Ups a year keeps everything running smoothly.

How It Compares: Basic, Standard, and Overhaul

We offer three tune-up tiers so you can get the right level of service for where your bike is at:

  • Basic Tune-Up — $95 — Brake and derailleur adjustments, tire inflation, chain lube, and a quick safety check. Best for bikes that are riding mostly fine but could use a little attention.
  • Standard Tune-Up — $175 — Everything listed above. Full drivetrain cleaning, brake adjustment, wheel truing, bearing checks, chain wear measurement, and a complete safety inspection. The best value for regular riders.
  • Overhaul Tune-Up — $275 — A full teardown and rebuild. Every component comes off, gets inspected, cleaned or replaced, and reassembled from scratch. The right call for bikes with multiple seasons of hard riding or long storage.

Not sure which one your bike needs? Bring it by either shop and we’ll take a look. We’ll tell you honestly what we’d recommend — and if a Basic is all you need, that’s what we’ll suggest.

What to Expect

Drop your bike off at either of our North Raleigh locations — 6300 Creedmoor Rd #138 or 8480 Honeycutt Rd #126 (Lafayette Village). Standard Tune-Ups are typically completed within the same week. If we find anything during the inspection that needs your attention, we’ll call you before moving forward.

We’re open Creedmoor Road is open Monday–Friday 10 AM–6 PM; Lafayette Village is open Tuesday–Saturday 10 AM–6 PM. Walk-ins are welcome — you don’t need to schedule ahead to drop off, but if you want to book a specific time, give us a call or use our online scheduling.

While your bike is in for service, it’s also a great time to consider adding our Silca chain waxing service. A waxed chain runs cleaner, quieter, and lasts longer between applications — and it pairs perfectly with a freshly tuned drivetrain.
