Bike Tune-Up Packages
Shifting feels sluggish? Brakes making noise? Chain skipping under load? Sounds like it’s time for a tune-up. At Bell Lap Cycleworks, we offer three bike tune-up tiers so you can get exactly the level of service your ride needs — whether it’s a quick seasonal check or a full teardown. We typically have same-week service availability at both our North Raleigh locations, and we post our prices upfront so you know what to expect.
Not sure which package is right for you? Here’s what each one covers and when you’d want it.
Basic Tune-Up — $95
The Basic Tune-Up is your best bet for a bike that’s riding fine but could use some attention. It’s ideal after winter storage, before a big ride, or just as routine maintenance a couple of times a year.
What’s included:
- Brake adjustment (both brakes)
- Derailleur adjustment (front and rear)
- Tire inflation and inspection
- Chain lubrication
- Quick safety check — bolts, headset, wheel true
- Test ride
If your bike shifts and stops well enough but just feels a little off, the Basic is usually all you need.
Standard Tune-Up — $175
The Standard Tune-Up goes deeper. This is the one we recommend for bikes that have been ridden regularly for 6-12 months, or if you’re noticing sluggish shifting, squeaky brakes, or a chain that skips under load.
What’s included (everything in the Basic, plus):
- Brake cable and housing replacement
- Shift cable and housing replacement
- Chain wear measurement and replacement if needed
- Wheel truing
- Headset adjustment
- Bottom bracket check
- Full drivetrain cleaning
- Test ride
Fresh cables make a big difference. If it’s been a while since yours were swapped, the Standard will get your bike feeling close to new again.
Overhaul Tune-Up — $275
The Overhaul is a full teardown and rebuild. We take the bike completely apart, inspect every component, clean or replace what needs it, and put it all back together. It’s the right call for bikes that have seen multiple seasons of hard riding, bikes that have been sitting for a long time, or any bike where you just want everything gone through top to bottom.
What’s included (everything in the Standard, plus):
- Complete disassembly
- Frame cleaning and inspection
- Hub bearing overhaul (front and rear)
- Bottom bracket overhaul
- Headset overhaul
- Hydraulic brake bleed (if applicable)
- Full component inspection and reassembly
- Test ride and final adjustment
Parts are additional if anything needs replacing — we’ll always let you know before we install anything. No surprises.
Common Issues We Fix — When Does Your Bike Need a Tune-Up?
Here are a few signs it’s time to bring your bike by:
- Shifting feels slow, hesitant, or won’t go into certain gears
- Brakes are squealing, rubbing, or don’t stop as confidently
- The chain skips or makes noise under pedaling load
- You hear clicking, creaking, or rattling you can’t track down
- It’s been 6+ months since your last service
- You pulled the bike out of storage and want it ready to ride
If something specific is bugging you — a single brake that needs attention or a derailleur that won’t cooperate — you might not need a full tune-up. Add-On: Chain Waxing — $75
While your bike is in for a tune-up, it’s a great time to switch to a waxed chain. Our Silca chain waxing service runs cleaner, lasts longer between applications, and is easier on your drivetrain. It’s $75 as an add-on to any tune-up package, or $30 for interim waxing on a previously waxed chain.
