Custom Bike Services in Raleigh, NC

Bell Lap Cycleworks is more than a repair shop. Beyond our standard tune-ups and repairs, we offer a range of custom bike services in Raleigh that most shops don’t. Whether you need a bike built from scratch, a new ride assembled from the box, or a post-race deep clean, we’ve got you covered. Every service comes with the same attention to detail and honest pricing you’d expect from a mechanic-owned shop.

We’ve been working on bikes in the Raleigh area for over 15 years, and these specialty services are some of the things we enjoy most. They’re the kind of work that separates a real bike shop from a place that just swaps parts.

Custom Bike Builds — $275

Want a bike that’s built exactly to your specs? Our custom bike build service lets you choose every component — frame, groupset, wheels, cockpit, saddle, the works. We charge a flat $275 build fee and handle everything from frame prep to final quality control. Every bolt is torqued to spec, every cable is routed properly, and every bike gets a test ride before it leaves the shop.

As authorized dealers for Specialized, Bianchi, TIME, Niner, and State Bicycle, we can source frames and components at dealer pricing. Whether you’re building a race-ready road bike, a gravel adventure rig, or a commuter that actually fits the way you ride, we can help you put it together.

Bike Assembly from Box — $75

Bought a bike online? We get it — sometimes the deal is too good to pass up. But pulling a bike out of a shipping box and putting it together the right way takes the right tools, the right torque specs, and a trained eye. Our Bike Assembly from Box service is $75, and we’ll make sure your new ride is built properly and safe to ride from the first pedal stroke.

Here’s what’s included:

  • Full assembly of all components
  • Headset installation and adjustment
  • Brake adjustment and alignment
  • Derailleur indexing
  • Wheel true check
  • Safety inspection before handoff

It’s the same care and attention we put into our ground-up custom builds — just applied to a bike that arrived in cardboard. Most box builds are done within a day or two. Learn more about our bike assembly service.

Race Bike Cleaning Service — $75

After a muddy cyclocross race, a dusty gravel event, or a rainy road race, your bike needs more than a garden hose. Our Race Bike Cleaning Service is $75 and gives your bike a thorough post-race deep clean so it’s ready for your next ride or your next event.

Here’s what to expect:

  • Full frame wash and detail
  • Drivetrain degreasing and cleaning
  • Brake surface and pad cleaning
  • Wheel and tire scrub
  • Chain lube and re-tension
  • Quick safety check of bolts and components

We know race weekends are busy. Drop your bike off after the race and pick it up clean and ready to go. It’s a quick turnaround — most bikes are done the same day or next morning. See full details on our race cleaning service.

Chain Waxing — $75

If you haven’t tried a waxed chain, you’re missing out. Our Silca chain waxing service costs $75 and gives you a cleaner, quieter, longer-lasting drivetrain. No more black grease on your leg or your kit. The wax treatment reduces friction, extends chain life, and keeps your drivetrain looking clean ride after ride. It’s one of those upgrades that makes a real difference — and pairs well with our race cleaning service if you want your bike running at its best.

General Shop Labor — $75/hr

Got a project that doesn’t fit neatly into one of our listed services? We charge $75 per hour for general shop labor. This covers things like accessory installation, unusual repairs, rack and fender fitting, electronic shifting setup, or anything else that requires shop time and tools. If you’re not sure whether something falls under a standard service or general labor, give us a call and we’ll let you know upfront what it’ll cost. No surprises.
